President Obama Calls for International Queer Rights in Mandela Euolgy

Yesterday, President Obama eulogized the late Nelson Mandela, one of the greatest advocates of peace and human rights the world has ever known. Obama’s powerful speech of course lauded Mandela’s role in helping to end Apartheid in South Africa but he seemed to focus more on Mandela’s fight for social justice and the rights of all people, including those who are Queer.

“Around the world today, men and women are still imprisoned for their political beliefs, and are still persecuted for what they look like, and how they worship, and who they love,”  — President Barack Obama
