A Luv Tale: QWOC Film Boasts Big Names

Sistah Sinema LogoIt may be hard to believe, but Valentine’s Day is right around the corner.  Soon, you’ll be required to purchase flowers, candy and gifts to ensure that special lady in your life feels…well…special. Like every year, you’ll get all dressed up, head to a fancy restaurant and wine and dine her. You’ll end up shelling out top dollar on the evening’s festivities as you strive to compete with a completely commercialized “holiday” intended for [and fully customized to] heterosexuals. All that’s great, but for some of us, the traditional trappings of Valentine’s Day can get boring and predictable. Maybe you want to try something different, something a little more “queer-focused”. Check out Sistah Simena’s film, A Luv Tale, debuting in a city near you just in time for the romantic day. The 45-minute film directed by Sidra Smith stars Tichina Arnold, MC Lyte and Gina Ravera (Showgirls/Soul Food). It tells the story of two QWOC who fall in love when a photographer (Ravera) woos a fashion designer over wine and candlelight. The folks over at Sistah Sinema have been cranking out the QWOC films for some time now and have consistently received incredible feedback. Their [more than] decent following proves just how starved we all are for QWOC representation in the media. Check out their website for information about their previous work and peruse their event calendar for specific showtimes in your area.  So, whether you’re with your boo or a gang of friends, make Valentine’s Day a movie night this year and go see A Luv Tale.
