In its latest campaign, Barneys New York partners with two leading voices in the queer community, the National Center for Transgender Equality (NCTE) and the LGBT Community Center (The Center). According to Barneys, transgender men and women are often lost or overlooked in the battle for LGBT rights, so the company felt it was high-time to let them shine. Seventeen transgender individuals were chosen to share their images as well as their touching and inspirational stories of transition in the campaign entitled “Brothers, Sisters, Sons and Daughters.” The stunning black and white photography is done by Bruce Weber. Weber posed most of the models with their loved ones, family members and partners. Barneys pledges to donate 10% of sales on February 11th (both from barneys.com and from their stores nationwide) to the NCTE and LGBT community center of NYC.
Last year, Barneys was at the center of a racial profiling scandal after two African-American shoppers alleged employees of the retailer wrongfully accused them of debit card fraud.
