Family and friends gather in mourning as the investigation into the deaths of Houston couple Britney Cosby (24) and Crystal Jackson (24) continues. Since news of the double homicide sent shock waves through the queer and black communities, numerous social media pages and fundraising crusades have emerged in tribute to the women. However, QLiC Press spoke to Cosby’s aunt and family spokesperson, Ebony McDade, who verified the official crowd sourcing campaign established for Cosby’s funeral arrangements. The family is in dire need of donations and is up against a Friday deadline. So far, the effort has garnered less than half of its $6,000 goal.
McDade also confirmed that a vigil will be held from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. on March 12th at Sunnyside Park and will be immediately followed by a benefit show at True Colors Nightclub (details below).
“We would like to thank everyone for the support and condolences you’ve shown us. We’ve gotten a lot of calls and emails and we really want to thank you for that,” said McDade.
Close acquaintances describe their reaction to the news of Cosby’s death.
“It was just senseless. I really can’t believe it. I’m still in shock. She was always laughing and had a great spirit. What makes this whole thing worse is that there isn’t much information as to why and how this happened,” says a close friend, who asked to remain anonymous.
The brutally beaten bodies of Cosby and Jackson were discovered early Friday morning in Port Bolivar, TX near a convenience store dumpster. On Sunday, The Galveston Sherriff’s Department released a sketch of the person they believe to have been last seen with the couple in their silver 2006 Kia Sorento. According to KHOU 11 News, authorities are following a lead that one of the victim’s debit cards may have been used after her death.
“If you know any information that can help in the investigation, please come forward so that we can have some closure to this,” pleaded McDade.
The public is asked to contact Galveston Sherriff’s Department Office tip line at 1- 866-248-8477 or Galveston Crime Stoppers at 409-763-8477. A public homegoing service for Cosby is tentatively scheduled for Friday at the Willard Avenue Baptist Church in Houston.
QLiC Press was unable to contact the Jackson family for comment.
