Earlier today, Galveston Sherriff’s officers arrested James Larry Cosby in connection to the deaths of his daughter, Britney Cosby, and her girlfriend of two years, Crystal Jackson. QLiC Press was able to speak to the Cosby family shortly after news of the arrest was released.
“I’m just in shock…I’m just in shock,” says James Cosby’s sister, Ebony McDade. “But, I prayed for closure and my exact words were, ‘God ,whomever did this, please bring them forth.’ Yes, I love my brother dearly, but we all have different paths in life. And he definitely went down the wrong one.”
According to Galveston County Sheriff Henry Trochesset, officials began looking into Cosby after a suspicious encounter with him at his home. “When we went to the residence to talk to him, some of the things we saw there, it increased and went further. We got a search warrant for the residence and our crime scene investigators were there last night, and after the event at the park [a candlelight vigil held in the victims’ honor], we drove him down to talk to us at the Sheriff’s Office,” says Trochesset.
Officials believe the couple was killed in James Cosby’s home before their bodies were discarded near a dumpster outside of a Port Bolivar, TX convenience store last Friday. Officials say Britney Cosby was beaten to death and Crystal Jackson was shot in the back of the head. The Sherriff’s Department says Cosby was recently released from prison in October of last year and was a registered sex offender. According to My Fox Houston, Cosby was convicted in 1994 for a sexual assault involving a 22-year-old woman.
While the shocking news spreads through the community, the Cosby family continues to mourn the loss of both Britney and Crystal.
“Britney didn’t have an enemy in the world,” says Patricia Nixon, mother of Larry Cosby and Britney Cosby’s grandmother. “She was the type of person who wanted a good life and worked hard to get it. She attended school and worked hard to help take care of her great-grandmother who she lived with.”
“Crystal was a beautiful girl. She and Britney were inseparable. Everywhere one went, you were sure to see the other. They were truly in love,” says Nixon.
Thanks to the public’s help with fundraising, Britney Cosby’s homegoing arrangements have been finalized. Services will be held on Saturday. A public viewing will be begin at 9 a.m. followed by an 11 a.m. memorial at Wheeler Avenue Baptist Church located at 3826 Wheeler St, Houston, TX 77004. Cosby will be laid to rest at Houston Memorial Gardens located at 2426 Cullen Blvd, Pearland, TX 77004. Once again, the public is welcome to pay their respects.
“Britney was loved by so many friends, family and co-workers. She will be truly, truly be missed,” says Ebony McDade.
Reports say that Crystal Jackson’s funeral services will also be held on Saturday at New Peaceful Rest Baptist Church, however QLiC Press could not confirm with the Jackson family.
QLiC Press will continue to update this story as details emerge.
